Artist's Statement:
I am working with new techniques which inspire my ideas for print and take me in new directions. I am currently investigating the representation of movement and space within the 2-dimensional confines of the print medium. I want to explore the theme of spatial awareness in the form of the body without directly referring to the body. In so doing, I am focussing on the marks created when one moves and I wish to develop upon the impressions left that give an idea of movement (or lack of) ie: standing, walking, running.
My work primarily evolves from the medium of etching with numerous processes that influence the final outcome. I like to take an initial idea or process and develop on this as a means to an end using digital manipulation and photography if the notion necessitates.
I wish to develop my work with a view to further editions. I will also return to the book making medium as a way of interacting with the work; the process of turning pages takes on the form of a journey, relevant to the aspect of movement and places the viewer in a unique position as both observer and participator.
