Planning the Year
Wow - it's already Feb 2012! This year seems set to fly by!
That is why we have been busy planning this year's Green Door events extra early so we can be sure it'll be a good'n~! Three of the most interesting things that we are proud to be involved in this year are: Behind the Green Door In association with the AIR project (more information: www.airarts.net) Artists from Green Door will soon be taking over the walls at the Derby Royal Hospital. This is a great project that brings artwork to members of the public as well as lighting up spaces within the hospitals. Watch this space for more information! The Derby Literature Festival Members of Green Door will be showing our artist's books from 31st March 2012 to 30th June 2012 at Eckington Library and Long Eaton Library as part of this county-wide festival in association with Derbyshire libraries. For more information visit: the Derbyshire County Council website. IPE (2009-2011) at the Orangery This is our first public exhibition of the last three year's prints as part of our International Print Exchange. Prints from all over the world will feature in the lovely setting of Derby Arboretum's Orangery. This year's IPE 2012 call for submissions is also about to go out - for more information visit: ipe2012.greendoor-printmaking.co.uk or join our facebook group: www.facebook.com/InternationalPrintExchange. And don't forget we always have rolling exhibitions up at the Derby Cathedral Coffee House, currently showing is Geraldine's 'Cathedral Connections' a series inspired by the Cathedral's stained glass windows (up until the 24th). Then following Gerry will be a new series of work by Green Door member Walt Shaw, entitled 'Explore'. ![]() Walt selecting work for 'Explore' So, this year is going to be exciting! Watch this space! literally, if you want to!
Rhiannon
It is the time of year for Work Placements in the studio. Last week we had the honour of meeting and having Rhiannon from Noel Baker Community School in our studio.
![]() Rhiannon chose to use her week with us to learn Monoprinting, her careful and intricate drawing style lend itself perfectly to this technqiue and during her stay she produced a number of beautifully considered prints. You can view Rhiannon's work placement portfolio here. If you would like to learn more about our Work Placement Programme, please click here.
Night Roses
![]() A solo exhibition by Tony Hall Showing: Fri 17 June - Fri 12 August 2011 Derby Cathedral Coffee House Night Roses is a small exhibition of drypoint prints; each print depicts one, two or more roses, drawn from life. The images are drawn with a metal point onto a copper plate which is then inked and printed on an etching press. Each image was drawn in a single session, most taking around three hours. The reflectiveness of the plate surface makes it difficult to see the marks as the drawing progresses, so that the success or failure of what has been done is not apparent until the image is finally printed. The prints on display are the results of hopeful attempts to grasp and transmit some trace of how one rose, or a bunch of roses, appeared on a particular date, at night, in a corner of a room, as time and gravity did their work. The exhibition was selected from a group of around twenty images produced in April and May 2011 and printed at, and with thanks to, Green Door Printmaking Studio. ![]()
