Artist's Statement:
My name is Anna Johnson, and I am passionate about Printmaking in all forms, but Etching is my preferred medium. I have studied all my life and am still studying.. I hope never to stop.
My vision for Green Door is to endow Derby with a Fine Art Printmaking Facility, fully equipped to meet the requirements of the latest innovations in Printmaking techniques. This also goes hand in hand with my belief that we should be striving to use less hazardous materials in our practice, both for the environment and ourselves.
My personal work is based on the Illustrator's concept of story. The work all has a narrative around it. At present, the idea of death as nothing is taking a primary place. Dreams also play a part in the subject matter, along with a certain amount of quirkiness and humour. The way I work is playful, and I like to push the media, incorporating different, sometimes seemingly incompatible techniques.
I am inspired by all manner of artwork, and my ideas are eclectic. Frida Khalo is an influence as are Francisco Goya y Lucientes and Odillon Redon. I also love Edvard Munch and the Surrealists.
