About Chris's Placement:

14 year old Chris Keast is the youngest student to join us for one week's work placement. Chris, who is working towards his GCSEs at Belper School north of Derby applied to us because he is specifically intersted in screen printing. He spent most of the week learning some of the techniques required of a studio technician.
He began with monoprinting before exploring intaglio and relief in collographs and culminated with the production of a photographic silk screen print of his own design on a t-shirt. In a busy week he also found time to design and print a collograph submission to this year's 'Prints For Peace' project in Mexico.
Chris's Statement:
My name is Chris Keast and I am 14 years old. I went to green door on work experience where I learned to do many types of print including Monoprints, collographs and silk screening. My favourite is silkscreening because it is very simple and easy to do but I also like collographs and have recently learned how to add colour with help from Brendan. I prefer to add colour to my prints as it makes them more interesting than just one colour.
Although I have only ever done one week of printmaking I have taken part in a prints for peace exchange in Mexico and have entered a collograph to be displayed in the cathedral. Most of my designs are just simple patterns and shapes. I chose these because they are easy to make into stencils and not too complicated to draw. When I was designing a t-shirt I got most of my inspiration from graffiti stencils because they are simple shapes and designs.
