Prints: Past and Present

The Smallprint Company’s very own Chris Barker will be showcasing his work in a new solo exhibition and has collated a selection of his printed works created over the last 20 years.

The exhibition opens at Banks Mill on 1 May and will be open weekdays from 10am-3pm until 19 May*.

Using a variety of processes including screen print, waterless lithography and letterpress, the works on show will represent a range of projects including the iconography and fetishism of firearms, experiments in photographic waterless lithography using images of slate and jellyfish and more recent works in typographical compositions.

This is the first solo exhibition of my work and is a retrospective reflection of my love for the printed medium. I have spent over 20 years working as a commercial printer and as a printmaker and I now run an artisan print and design business called The Smallprint Company along with my wife Hannah Barker. This exhibition shows some of my experiments with different techniques and the evolution of ideas. Presently I am working in letterpress using moveable type to study letterforms and typography.

Chris has taken part in several group shows as a member of Green Door Printmaking and participated in various print exchanges, however this will be the first time Chris has showcased his work in a solo exhibition.
