Artist's Statement:
As a printmaker I find the whole process of working on a motif, constructing an image on a block or plate and then transferring the image to paper all highly creative. The added tension of the variables and diversity of a finished print adds a touch of the unknown which can be exhilarating as well as frustrating but never ever formulaic. I have recently started to experiment with viscosity printing which has developed my use of colour. I like to deconstruct my finished blocks and plates to rework my original motifs.
My work is mainly organic in its content and I like to draw small details from life or using a microscope. I then like to go where my imagination takes me with the original motifs. My biggest artistic influences have been Graham Sutherland, Georgia O'Keefe and John Piper. Over the last couple of years Green Door Printmaking Studio has been invaluable in giving me the opportunity and professional support to develop my work in ways I would never have thought possible.
