Have you done a little bit of printmaking but are feeling a bit stuck? Come along to this tailor made Explore Printmaking 6-week class to do just that; explore and experiment! This course is an opportunity to explore printmaking and its many techniques in a supportive and stimulating working studio.
What will you learn?
This six-week class offers a little more in-depth look at experimenting with mark making, colour and texture whilst introducing you to the somewhat more advanced processes of collography, acrylic resist etching and photographic screen printing.
This night class will cover four different processes;
Collography
Collography (also spelt Collagraphy) is both an intaglio and relief printmaking technique. The term ‘Collography’ is derived from the Greek words ‘collo’ (meaning glue) and ‘graph’ (meaning the activity of drawing).
Reduction Lincout
Lino is a beautifully malleable printing surface. It is a very graphic method of producing an image. Designs can be cut, melted, or carved to create a bold and experimental design. Reduction linocut creates multiple colour prints using the same block.
Acrylic Resist Etching: Line Drawing
Etching is an intaglio printing process. Intaglio means a figure or a design cut or hollowed out of any substance. In this introduction to the Queen of printmaking; Etching, we will cover how to prep metal plates and etching a line drawing.
Photographic Screen Printing
Although Photographic Screen Printing is a technique that was primarily developed for graphic and commercial use, it is perhaps one of the most useful of all printmaking processes available to the studio-based artist/printmaker.
Topics covered:
- A brief history of printmaking and its terminology
- Paper types, tools and materials in printmaking
- How to produce your own prints using the methods covered
- How to sign and edition your prints
