Course Details
Learn how to create, carve and print a single colour linocut block during this editioning course. This course explores printmaking editioning in conjunction with our International Print Exchange.

What will you learn?

Linocut is a relief printing technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used as the relief surface. The design is then cut into the linoleum surface with a selection of specialist tools, with the raised (or uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed.

Participants in this course will be shown how to produce an edition of ten prints in this printmaking process, and are given the opportunity to submit their prints to take part in the International Print Exchange (IPE submission fee is included in the course price). All materials and notes are included in the price of this workshop. No previous experience of printmaking is required.

About the IPE

The International Print Exchange is an annual event organised by Green Door Printmaking Studio. We invite national and international printmakers to complete an edition of ten prints in any chosen printmaking technique. Each participating printmaker creates and submits a limited edition of ten prints specifically for the exchange. These prints are created using a recognised fine art printmaking technique with archival materials. Of the ten prints submitted, Green Door Printmaking Studio keeps two; the first for our archive and exhibition; the second for sale to fund future exchange projects (in return, if sold, this printmaker will receive free entry to the following year’s exchange). The remaining prints are randomised and sorted, and each printmaker receives eight random prints in return from all printmakers all over the world.

For more information about the exchange, visit: www.internationalprintexchange.org
