About this process

Electro etching offers all the creative possibilities of other less environmental techniques as well as some that are specific to this technique.

The technique offers a wide range of features, graphic and innovative possibilities but has not enjoyed the same spread or level of acceptance as other safer printmaking processes – perhaps because of an unfounded fear of electricity, or the apparent “expensive paraphernalia” to set up an electro-etching unit. In truth, the electrical “know-how” is very simple, and you do not need expensive equipment.

Line Drawing with hard ground is the basis of creating an etched plate; the fundamental teaching of using a drawn line to produce a composition.

Aquatint in etching is the means in which varied tones are applied to the surface of the plate, in order to create various tones on the print itself.
