Traces in the Void

4 July – 31 August 2016

A solo exhibition by Sarah Roach.

As part of their ongoing schedule of exhibitions in our corridor space, Green Door Printmaking Studio will be hosting an exhibition by University of Derby MA student, Sarah Roach (from Mon 4th July 2016). Sarah describes her work as an exploration of a combination of photography and printmaking. Her series of photopolymer etchings, entitled ‘Traces in the Void’ examine her recent observations and recordings of grasses. From the tentative beginnings in spring, through the amazing light of summer, to the fading days of autumn and onto the darker days of winter (and so cycle continues).

“Through my explorations in photography and printmaking I have become interested not in only the mark created but also the empty space in between. The idea of light and dark, something and nothing, of sound and silence. Through the processes used to create images for both printmaking and my photographic images I have begun to explore these ideas. Playing with, and exploiting parts of the image to see how it changes the qualities of the mark and how it effects the empty space in between.
