Membership of the studio entitles the holder to non-assisted open access to the studio facilities. To learn more about our membership types click here.

Do you offer any concessions?

Our courses and membership prices all include concession and student options. Our concessionary rate (-10%) is applicable if you are aged 60 years or older, aged 13 years or younger, and/or in receipt of any state benefits. Our student rate (-15%) is applicable if you are aged 13+ years, and in full-time education or currently studying towards an undergraduate or post-graduate degree. Applicants must provide proof of eligibility upon request.

How much does it cost?

We offer two types of membership pricing based on your circumstances: Regular and Concession/Student. You can join on a 12, 6 or 3 month basis to book access the studio facilities at any time during our open hours (at an hourly rate of £4). We also offer a flexible monthly renewable membership (payable via direct debit) for those wishing to trial studio membership for a one-off project.

Which of these you select will depend on your circumstances and what you would like to use the studio and our facilities for. To learn more about our membership pricing, please click here.

Can I join if I have no printmaking experience?

If you are interested in learning about printmaking, we recommend undertaking one of our courses before joining. This will enable you to work alone at your own pace in the studio in your chosen printmaking process. All of our courses require no previous experience of printmaking and are taught in a supportive and open atmosphere.

Can I join if I haven't completed a course at Green Door?

If you would like to use our facilities, and have some previous experience, you must first demonstrate that you have a good working knowledge of the processes you wish to use. This could be by taking part in one of our courses, or providing sufficient evidence of prior learning (please note, this must date within at least six months of applying for membership). Green Door tutors are available for shadowing if you require any assistance during your first session.

What is a studio session?

A studio session consists of a studio date and time that you have pre-booked to come in and work on your respective artwork or to use the on-site, studio facilities. This can be anywhere between a singular, one hour session to an entire day’s worth of studio time.

How do I book a session?

You must first join the studio as a member. Upon successful application, you will be provided with log in details for our Member's Area. In this area you will be able to see our bookings calendar and book a session via our online booking form.

When is the studio open for sessions?

You can see our current opening times on our contact page.

Do I need to bring anything to my sessions?

You should bring along an apron (or wear clothes you don't mind getting inky) and your artwork (plate / screen if applicable). We recommend you also bring a portfolio to transport your prints safety. All other inks and sundries are included in the session rate, or you can purchase other items directly from the studio.

What is included in the session rate?

The session rate is £4 per hour for the use of studio facilities and basic sundries (eg: inks etc). We also sell specialist materials such as handmade papers and printmaking tools in the studio should you require them as part of your session. Session rates along with any additional materials used during the session are payable at the end of the session.

Can I bring along a friend/family member to my session?

Unfortunately, not. Due to studio sizing constraints and health and safety requirements, we can only enable those who are current members or on courses access to our studios.

What if I need help during my session?

A studio technician will always be on hand throughout your session for troubleshooting. However, if you require additional support or teaching assistance during your session, we also provide a 'shadowing' service,  for £15 per hour, which can be requested when booking your session.

How do I cancel my session?

If you are ill or unforseen circumstances arise that mean you will not be able to attend your studio session, please let us know as soon as possible via email.

We usually ask for at least 2 working days (48 hours) notice of your cancellation. If your notice falls short of this notification period, you may be charged a cancellation fee of £10 towards your session (at the discretion of Green Door).

I didn't manage to book my session within five days, can I still book?

We ask that all bookings are made at least 5 working days in advance of the day you would like to work in the studio. This is because we need to ensure that all materials and facilities you would like to use are appropriately stocked and available.

Can I store my work in the studio?

Not indefinitely, no. Work stored on the drying racks within our studios will have to be collected within a few weeks and limited studio space means very little can be safely stored in our plan chests. Work submitted towards exhibitions must be collected within a weeks time from the exhibition’s end date.

When does my membership expire?

Once you have joined Green Door, you will be given an end date in which your membership will expire.

In the run up to this end date, you will be contacted via email (at least a week beforehand) to either continue/alter your membership or to cancel your membership to the studio.
