Course Details
Learn how to create, carve and print your own reduction colour linocut block during this one-day course.

What will you learn?

In reduction lino the design is produced from one single lino block, layering up the colour each time the lino is cut. This technique is a challenging way to produce an edition of prints, as by the end of the session there will be little to none left of your lino block.

Linocut is a relief printing technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used as the relief surface. Lino is a beautifully malleable printing surface. It is a very graphic method of producing an image. Designs can be cut, melted, or carved to create a bold and experimental design.

During this course you will learn how to plan your design, cut your block and produce an edition of prints using handmade papers.

Topics covered:

  • A brief history of relief printing and its terminology
  • Paper types, tools and materials in printmaking
  • How to produce your own prints using the methods covered
  • How to sign and edition your prints
