Form and Land

11 July – 3 September 2018

An exhibition of etchings by Gillan Paris.

“The reference to ‘’Form and Land’’ in the Exhibition Title is a bit oblique, and certainly it applies to some images more than others, however in my mind ‘’Form’’ is generally equated with human activity or action (the subject matter of an image) and ‘’Land’’ is the setting for it. Land itself has Form of course, but it is fundamental and given by Nature. When these two worlds meet you can get, almost accidentally, a dynamic tension. That is certainly true because you can for example place a piece of sculpture in different situations and its impact is immediately altered. That is a phenomenon and principle that I have tried to explore in most of the images in the show.”
