About this process
During Soap Ground, a specially mixed ground is laid loosely on a plate and either drawn into or subjected to any mark making.
The plate is then bitten in the mordant, then cleaned and printed. This then produces a very textured effect with a patchy white background, instantly recognisable as a Soap ground etching.
This method would greatly benefit intermediate etchers trying new techniques, experimental artists and those who tend to use abstraction in their work.
