Memento Mori

Directly translated as ‘remember you too must die’, and often associated with death motifs and macabre symbolism, this Member’s exhibition reflects our printmakers interpretation of the theme.

Prevalent in medieval and early modern art, this phrase often utilised visuals of skulls, skeletons, and decaying bodies—specifically in the Danse Macabre (Dance of Death) — to remind viewers to focus on spiritual salvation rather than earthly pleasures.
